| Testcode: | E_PSAGR |
| Specimens: | 500 µl Serum (s) |
| Preanalytics/Notes: | Patients receiving high doses of biotin (> 5 mg / day) should be sampled at least 8 hours after the last application, as high levels of biotin may interfere with the test system. In the extended grey area (4 - 10 ng/ml), the determination of free PSA is complemented and an interpretation aid is provided by ratio formation. Please use the wording "PSA without free PSA" for the target request, if this is not to be done. Please use the wording "PSA and free PSA" if free PSA and the quotient are to be added in any case. This is important because subsequent requests regarding free PSA cannot be carried out for reasons of stability. Blood sampling is recommended at the following times:

| Duration: | 1 day |
| Indication/Significance: |
According to german guideline, a risk classification and a risk-adapted recommendation regarding screening strategies and further diagnostic testing should be made based on the level of PSA concentration. The following applies: < 1.5 ng/ml: Low risk, screening every 5 years 1.5 - 2.99 ng/ml: Intermediate risk, screening every 2 years >= 3.00 ng/ml (confirmed): High risk, follow-up diagnostics (MRI prior to biopsy) required It should be noted that an elevated PSA level >= 3.00 ng/ml should be rechecked within 3 months prior to further diagnostic testing, taking into account influencing factors such as inflammation, trauma, ethnicity, and family history. |
| Interpretation: |
Guide value for patients more… Guide value for patients who have undergone radical prostatectomy: < 0.01 ng/ml 0.01 - 0.10 ng/ml Range requiring control, grey area > 0.20 ng/ml Biochemical recurrence The biological half-life of PSA is 2 - 3 days. High pre-surgical levels thus need weeks to normalise.

In the extended grey area (4 - 10 ng/ml), the determination of free PSA is complemented and an interpretation aid is provided by ratio formation (see preanalytical information) |
