Specimens: | 1 ml Serum, frozen (s) |
Preanalytics/Notes: | Let whole blood coagulate after sampling, centrifuge and transfer supernatant serum into a new tube, label the tube accordingly, freeze and dispatch frozen. Patients receiving high doses of biotin (> 5 mg / day) should be sampled at least 8 hours after the last application, as high levels of biotin may interfere with the test system. |

Elevated concentrations more… Elevated concentrations of protein S 100 in the serum can be an indication of a generalised organic brain damages, e.g. in the case of hypoxia, after resuscitation, in the case of cerebral contusion, in the case of cerebrocranial traumas. Elevated protein S 100 levels in the liquor can occur with all acute cerebral lesions. An early determination of protein S 100 after acute cerebral lesions is recommended to estimate the prognosis and, in the event of negative computer tomographic findings, to assess the cerebral involvement. Close-meshed serial analyses may be useful as an additional criterion for the assessment of the progress. Within the scope of a diagnostic assessment of dementia, significantly increased concentrations are indicative of dementia. |
Further tests: | Tau protein or beta amyloid in the liquor |
