Preanalytics/Notes:	Centrifuge whole blood immediately after sampling and coagulation and transfer supernatant into a new tube. Immediate centrifugation is important as otherwise the proinsulin will be destroyed by cell-bound proteases. The obtained EDTA-plasma is frozen and dispatched frozen.

Assessment of the result in patients without diabetes mellitus: Intact proinsulin > 11 pmol/l: A diagnostic assessment of diabetes mellitus or an insulinoma should be carried out.
