Indication/Significance:	Suspected bronchial carcinoma Differential diagnosis of unclear pulmonary masses Suspected tumour-related polyneuropathy Therapy control and follow-up of small-cell bronchial carcinomas as well as further small cell neuroendocrine carcinomas, e.g. carcinoma of the prostate or oesophagus Therapy control and follow-up of the medullary thyroid carcinoma
Interpretation:	The strongest ProGRP more… The strongest ProGRP release takes place within the scope of small-cell lung carcinomas (SCLC). A correlation of ProGRP with the tumour stage cannot be established. Strong increases of ProGRP have also been observed in the case of non-small cell lung carcinomas (NSCLC). Increased also in the case of benign diseases: Benign gynaecological diseases such as endometriosis, ovarian cysts, mastopathies, mastitis Benign diseases of the lung such as Tbc, sarcoidosis, COPD, chronic and acute pneumonias, benign pleural effusions and auto-immune diseases Benign gastro-intestinal diseases such as liver cirrhosis, acute and chronic hepatitis, primary biliary cirrhosis, cholelithiasis, cholangitis, acute or chronic pancreatitis In the event of a renal insufficiency, levels up to 350 pg have been observed. Therefore special attention is to be paid to this in patient with lung cell carcinomas. Generally it can be said that ProGRP reaches a 100% tumour specificity at about 150 pg/ml. close
