We recommend the following steps in porphyria diagnostics: 1) Preliminary porphyrin diagnosis: Urine analysis (2x10 ml of urine from a 24 h collection), if necessary determination of porphyrin in the stool (approx. 5 g of stool) 2) Diagnostic assessment of an erythropoietic porphyria: Determination of free protoporphyrins in erythrocytes (approx. 3 ml of EDTA blood) - the test material is stable for 3 days |
