Tau proteins are more… Tau proteins are specific characteristics for dementias with hyperphosphorylated tau proteins in cerebrospinal fluid and have equal or higher efficacy than clinical and neurological dementia evaluation. Tau proteins have a greater specificity for dementia pathology as they are less dependent on age and degree of cognitive (mental) decline. Increases are found in:
The reference values are not valid for people with Trisomy 21. This genetic defect lowers the (phospho-)tau values, so that the typically elevated tau proteins in Alzheimer's disease are incorrectly low. |
