Indication/Significance:	Early detection of a cardiac insufficiency Assessment of the severity and the prognosis of a cardiac insufficiency in accordance with NYHA classes I to IV Diagnostic assessment of a dyspnoea (cardiac vs. pulmonary) Cardiac insufficiency follow up and therapy monitoring
Interpretation:	Increased: Cardiac more… Increased: Cardiac insufficiency, dependent on class (NYHA classification). There are value overlap between the classes. Left-ventricular hypertrophy Pulmonary hypertonia Liver cirrhosis with ascites, renal insufficiency, hyperaldosteronism. Predictive value, see fig. 18 and 19: If values are normal, a cardiac insufficiency can be ruled out with high probability. The predictive value of a negative result is approx. 96 %. If dyspnoea persists in spite of best cardiac insufficiency therapy, prelatent/latent iron deficiency should be considered as well; see ferritin. close
