Preanalytics/Notes:	To avoid clotting please mix test tube carefully several times directly after collection of blood. Please centrifuge sample at least for 15 minutes (1500 x g). Plasma / supernatant should be transferred by pipette to a collection tube without any buffer or other substances. Please label as citrated plasma. Freeze and send frozen. No blood sampling from central venous catheter. If additional coagulation tests are ordered (e.g. factor II - XIII), at least one extra tube of frozen citrated plasma is needed. Indication/Significance:	Besides the anticardiolipin antibodies (ACA), lupus anticoagulants belong to the heterogeneous group of antiphospholipid antibodies (APA). It is recommended to request ACA and beta-2 glycoprotein antibodies in addition to the LA. Interpretation:	A positive result can more… A positive result can indicate an APS (antiphospholipid syndrome); a confirmatory analysis is recommended after approx. 12 weeks. If the test result is negative, but clinically suspicious symptoms, the determination of phosphatidylserine antibodies is recommended. Based on new criteria for the classification of APS, patients are divided into classes 1 to 2 a - c with regard to the number and type of APA. The risk of thrombosis is highest with existing LA. Provable with: Venous or arterial thromboses Thrombocytopenias Repeat abortions Systemic lupus erythematosus Administration of medication such as procainamide, phenytoin and chlorpromazine Infectious diseases, e.g. infectious mononucleosis, varicella, hepatitis, malaria, tuberculosis, borrelioses and HIV Malignomas, e.g. bronchial carcinoma and mammary carcinoma, lymphoproliferative diseases and monoclonal gammopathies Neurological diseases such as Buillain-Barré reflex and Behçet syndrome close
