Leptin values reflect more… Leptin values reflect the body fat mass because fatty tissue produces leptin. Through leptin food intake (hunger) is regulated down centrally and energy consumption is increased. Conversely this means: A leptin deficiency promotes food intake and as a result leads to adiposity and insulin resistance. Extreme adiposity in childhood is observed in the case of a mutation in the leptin receptor. |
