Increased: The first more… Increased: The first symptom of a latent iron deficiency is the incidental increase of TIBC. Manifest iron deficiency is regularly associated with an elevated TIBC. Transferrin synthesis is increased through oestrogens as well as due to the increased demand for iron of the foetus so that elevated TIBC levels are measured during pregnancy. TIBC (total iron binding capacity) is calculated by approximation from the transferrin concentration. |
