Specimens:	500 µl Serum (s), frozen
Preanalytics/Notes:	Fasting blood sampling. Limited stability of the sample; same-day laboratory receipt required, otherwise freeze serum. For this purpose let coagulate after blood sampling, for approx. 30 - 45 min., centrifuge, remove serum with a pipette and transfer into a new tube, freeze and dispatch deep-frozen. Patients receiving high doses of biotin (> 5 mg / day) should be sampled at least 8 hours after the last application, as high levels of biotin may interfere with the test system.

Indication/Significance:	Differential diagnostics of hypoglycaemia (diagnostic assessment of insulinoma) Suspected factitious hypoglycaemia Diagnosis of the insulin resistance by means of the HOMA score, e.g. in the case of a suspected PCO (The HOMA score is suited best for the clarification of a possible insulin resistance.)
Interpretation:	Insulin, C peptide and more… Insulin, C peptide and proinsulin can only be assessed in connection with the blood sugar values taken simultaneously. Biologically synergistic behaviour. As C peptide and proinsulin have a longer half-life in the blood, they are better suited to assess the beta cell function.
