| Testcode: | E_INHIB |
| Specimens: | 500 µl Serum (s), frozen |
| Preanalytics/Notes: | The 3rd to 5th day of the menstrual cycle is suitable for testing inhibin B. Withdraw venous blood without additives, let blood coagulate, transfer supernatant serum into a new tube, label it accordingly, then freeze it and dispatch it frozen. Patients receiving high doses of Biotin (> 5 mg/day) should be sampled at least 8 hours after the last aplication, as high levels of the Biotin may interfere with the insulin-and c-peptide-test systems. |

| Interpretation: |
In women with diminished more… In women with diminished ovarian reserves, the levels drop to the lower normal range during the perimenopause. Patients with a low ovarian response show a smaller inhibin B increase under stimulation treatment. In men, inhibin values correlate with the testicular volume and sperm density. The combined determination of FSH, LH and inhibin B results in a far better estimate of the testicular function than the sole FSH and LH determination. |
