| Preanalytics/Notes: | Blood sampling is preferred in special homocysteine tubes with separating gel (S-Monovette® HCY-Z-Gel, Sarstedt). To avoid falsely high results, centrifuge the tube within 8 hours and then send it to the laboratory. When using special homocysteine tubes without separating gel (Vacuette®Homocystein): please centrifuge the sample within 8 hours and send the supernatant, transferred to a secondary tube, to the laboratory. When using other tubes (e.g. NaF tubes): please centrifuge immediately after blood collection (within 45 minutes of blood collection), transfer the plasma to a secondary tube and send this to the laboratory. |
