| Indication/Significance: |
The blood count without differential test comprises the determination of the number of erythrocytes, leucocytes and thrombocytes, of haemoglobin, haematocrit and different indices such as MCV and MCH. For reasons of greater accuracy, the counting is carried out by a machine. If abnormalities are detected during the automatic analysis, a microscopic examination of the smear will be carried out in addition. A manual smear examination for microscopic differentiation can also be requested separately, especially if there is a specific suspicion of a haematological disease. Note: With asymptomatic patients (e.g. check patients), a blood count leads to a new diagnosis in no more than one in every 200 cases. Therefore, it is frequently a subject of discussion in literature and at congresses whether this blood screening is indicated at all with symptomatic patients. |
