Indication/Significance:	Suspected hepatocellular damage and for the treatment and monitoring of progress in the case of Icterus and subicterus Infection caused by hepatotropic viruses (hepatitis A, B, C, D) Suspected complementary disease of the liver in the event of systemic viral diseases, bacterial and parasitic infections Suspected chronic liver diseases Suspected auto-immune hepatitis Suspected liver damage caused by exogenous noxae (alcohol, drug products, intoxicants, toxic chemicals at the workplace and in the environment) as well as by hypernutrition with parenteral feeding Suspected tumours of the liver Suspected hereditary metabolic disorders such as haemochromatosis, Wilson's disease, alpha-1-antitrypsin deficiency, cystic fibrosis Suspected cardiac infarction
Interpretation:	Increased in the case more… Increased in the case of: New-born children (physiological), physical exertion (physiological), cardiac infarction (increase within 6 - 12 h, maximum 16 - 48 h, drop 3 - 6 days after occurrence of the myocardial infarction), acuter rheumatic carditis, cardiac surgery, acute liver diseases (infectious, toxic, malignant), chronic liver diseases and obstructive icterus (only slight increase), acute leukaemia, infectious mononucleosis, haemolysis. With a cardiac infarction, the level of the maximum GOT increase correlates with the extent of the muscle damage. close
