Info: | Based on our long-year experience with porphyria diagnostics, we have decided to modify our porphyria diagnosis protocol to a stepwise protocol. This new protocol consists of a first step with HPLC differentiation of the porphyrins which is followed, only in the case of clinically significantly results, by a subsequent second step with the determination of the porphyrine precursors delta aminolevulinic acid and porphobilinogen. Our decision is based on our long-term observations that there was never a case with a normal porphyrine excretion but clinically significantly increased porphyrine precursors. Our new protocol, will allow us to deliver you the final porphyria results faster and in most cases without the extra costs for the determination of |
Preanalytics/Notes: | Spot urine is only suitable for acute diagnostics! Send in 10 ml of 24h urine sample during a pain-free interval (please state the amount collected), protect sample from light and store in a cool place. Additional analysis of porphobilinogen and total porpyrines in 24h urine are recommended. |
