| Testcode: | E_CPEPR |
| Specimens: | 500 µl Serum (s), frozen |
| Preanalytics/Notes: | Let whole blood coagulate after sampling, centrifuge, transfer supernatant serum into a new tube, label the tube accordingly, freeze and dispatch deep-frozen. Patients receiving high doses of biotin (> 5 mg / day) should be sampled at least 8 hours after the last application, as high levels of biotin may interfere with the test system. |

Increased: Indication of more… Increased: Indication of endogenous production, e.g. in the case of an insulinoma, also in the case of exogenously-induced hypoglycaemia caused by sulphonylurea, postprandial
Decreased: Exogenously administered insulin, type I diabetesC peptide develops in equimolar amounts like insulin by splitting from proinsulin and reflects the endogenous insulin secretion. Owing to its longer half-life (30 - 40 minutes) and the lower metabolisation, it is a better marker of the B cell function than insulin. It serves the estimation of the residual insulin secretion and is important in the DD of hypoglycaemia in the case of a suspected insulinoma to differentiate from an exogenous insulin supply. In most cases the determination within the scope of function tests (e.g. glucose tolerance test, hunger test, glucagon test) with a simultaneous determination of glucose and, if required insulin, is more reliable. |
