Antibody screen (LISS/Coombs) (EDTA blood (eb))

Specimens: 7 ml EDTA blood (eb)
Preanalytics/Notes:

Every sample container must be clearly labelled (last name, first name, date of birth or alternatively patient ID/bar code). The examination request must be filled out completely and signed by the physician withdrawing the sample. It is necessary to clearly assign the required test to the corresponding sample container.

Indication/Significance:
  • Part of very blood grouping test
  • Transfusions: The antibody screening is performed before every transfusion event and has to be repeated in cross-match test, if the blood sample with which the last antibody screening was carried out was drawn more than 3 days before. Exception: resultd valid for 7 days if there was no transfusion or pregnancy in the previous 3 months
  • Pregnancy:  The test is performed to identify irregular maternal antibodies against RBC antigens which can possibly penetrate the placenta and cause fetal hemolysis 

  • Within the scope of the prematernity medical care in Germany, the antibody screening has to be performed twice during pregnancy: 4th to 8th and 24th to 27th week of pregnancy. A third test is recommended for Rh-negative mothers in the second trimenon.

If the result of the antibody screening is positive, additional antibody differentiations is necessary in many cases.

Die Kosten werden für den i. d. R. genutzten 1,15-fachen GOÄ-Satz dargestellt. Wird die Unter­suchung nicht in Ihrem regionalen Labor durch­geführt, erfolgt die Analyse in dem Labor, das im Leistungs­ver­zeich­nis genannt ist. In diesem Fall gilt der dort für die Untersuchung angegebene Preis.
