| Preanalytics/Notes: | ACTH is absorbed by glass surfaces, it is essential to use plastic containers. After blood sampling, the sample is centrifuged immediately, the supernatant EDTA plasma is transferred into a new tube, labelled accordingly, frozen and dispatched frozen. ACTH is subject to a distinct circadian rhythm with higher levels in the morning than in the evening. As ACTH is a classical stress hormone, the sample should be taken at rest. Patients receiving high doses of Biotin (> 5 mg/day) should be sampled at least 8 hours after the last aplication, as high levels of the Biotin may interfere with the test system.ssential clinical benefit of an isolated ACTH measurement. The determination of ACTH is of importance in particular within the scope of functional tests. |
