PSA, total (Roche) (Serum (s))

Specimens: 500 µl Serum (s)
Preanalytics/Notes:

Patients receiving high doses of biotin (> 5 mg / day) should be sampled at least 8 hours after the last application, as high levels of biotin may interfere with the test system.

In the extended grey area (3 - 10 ng/ml), the determination of free PSA is complemented and an interpretation aid is provided by ratio formation.

Please use the wording "PSA without free PSA" for the target request, if this is not to be done.

Please use the wording "PSA and free PSA" if free PSA and the quotient are to be added in any case.

This is important because subsequent requests regarding free PSA cannot be carried out for reasons of stability.

Blood sampling is recommended at the following times:

  • At the earliest 48 h after ejaculation

  • Before or at the earliest 1 week after:

    • Digital rectal examination

    • Prostate massage

    • A transrectal ultrasonography

    • A cystoscopy

    • Intensive cycling

  • At the earliest 6 weeks after:

    • A prostatic biopsy

    • A TUR of the prostate
  • Please note: results obtained using different methods and/or test manufacturers cannot be compared with one another. The course of tumor markers should always be assessed by the same test.
