Interpretation:	CA 72-4 is a marker of more… CA 72-4 is a marker of first choice for the follow up of gastric carcinomas in connection with a second marker, e.g. CEA or CA 19-9. Furthermore, CA 72-4 is a second marker for ovarian carcinomas besides CA 125. With a specificity of 95 %, sensitivities between 20 and 60 % are reported for gastric carcinomas dependent on the stage. Also CA 72-4 is not suitable for screening purposes or early diagnostics. Elevated values can also be found with other carcinomas (e.g. colon carcinoma, cholangiocarcinoma) and with various benign diseases. Compared to CEA, the specificity for malignomas is significantly better. close
